Laser Hair Removal: Does It Hurt?

When people go into any procedure involving an alteration¬†to their body, there is¬†always that worrisome query: is it going to hurt? The answer varies because you could be awake or you could be knocked out stone cold. But what about laser hair removal? A lot of folks do it, but does it hurt? This question floats around a lot with people who want to go through it, and to put your mind at ease; I’ll go ahead and give it to you straight.

Yes, sweet cheese n crackers, it’s going to hurt. Honestly, this is to be expected; as you ARE taking a laser to your bare skin. Now, me? I’ve had it done before, and it’s nothing that you will come out of the clinic smiling about.

“But, how badly?”

Well, again, it varies with the sensitivity of the patient. For dark-skinned folks, the laser tends to hurt a little bit more. Lighter the skin, lesser the pain. To be blunt, it DOES hurt pretty bad; for everyone who does it. There’s no sugar coating that. To put the feeling into words, imagine a little-heated band being repeatedly snapped against your skin, though, instead of an obnoxious fifth grader doing it, there’s a grown aesthetician that you’re still not allowed to pulverise.

I wish I could say you can rest assured, but it doesn’t stop there, because one procedure session lasts about an hour to an hour and a half for your leg and back, though less broad parts = less time. And this is assuming you already know that you are going to need to go to the clinic over four times spanning over weeks to get the full treatment.

The pain can be lessened

Sometimes your aesthetician will give you this funny-looking cream that’s supposed to reduce the pain, but in my opinion? Just bring a stress ball, and a dictionary of some creative cuss words you can hiss while you’re going through it. Go to your happy place, whatever it takes that makes the pain go away for you.

You may feel bummed after reading this because anyone would feel discouraged when they learn they’ll be paying 500 to 1,000 buckaroos for thirty minutes of pain. BUT, remember, there’s a bright side to everything, and in my opinion, laser hair removal is worth it because not only does it get rid of all that pesky hair, but that hair stays gone for quite some time. And yeah, eventually it’ll grow back, but there’s no doubt that laser hair removal scares your hair growth away for quite some time.

So again, yes; it’s going to suck. But I think you’ll be alright, just bring a stress ball, bring a friend you can yell vulgarities at, and go to your happy place. And remember, no slapping the esthetician!
